Theme: “Radiation Technologies to Accelerate the Super-Gap Era”

Chairman Jung Kyung-il stresses, “It’s time to craft innovative, win–win strategies.”

[Energy Platform News | Reporter Park Byung-in] The Korea Radiation Promotion Association (Chairman: Jung Kyung-il) has created a “forum for discussion” on ways to secure super-gap technologies.

On the 16th, the Association held the “2023 Annual Conference on Radiation Science and Industry Promotion” at the SETEC Convention Center. The event was held under the theme “Radiation Technologies to Accelerate the Super-Gap Era,” and brought together key figures from the nuclear and radiation industries, including Hwang Joo-ho, President of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power; Lee Jin-kyung, President of the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences; and Im In-cheol, Vice President of the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute.

In a welcome address prior to the main program, Chairman Jung said, “The radiation technology industry stands at an important crossroads toward a new future and needs bold, innovative strategies,” adding, “To that end, industry, academia, and research must share a common vision and goals and communicate and collaborate more proactively.”

He continued, “The global market for radiation utilization is expanding from primarily medical applications—such as radiopharmaceuticals and diagnostic and therapeutic devices—into high value-added businesses like secondary batteries, semiconductors, and aerospace. To make a fresh leap, the industry must fully grasp the market’s potential and establish innovative, win–win strategies for shared growth.”

In the keynote session that followed, Dr. Han Beom-soo of the IAEA delivered an address on global trends in radiation technologies and industries and on the IAEA’s role in discovering space-related technologies.

After the keynote, topic presentations were delivered in the fields of defense industry, aerospace, biotechnology, and semiconductors, and a panel discussion was held on “Radiation technologies that accelerate the super-gap era.”

In addition, as a side event, a joint technology-transfer consultation was held with participation from the Korea Radiation Promotion Association, KAERI, KIRAMS, Korea Technology Finance Corporation (KIBO), and Seoul Technopark to facilitate information exchange and transactions between technology demand and supply as part of efforts to support the commercialization of radiation technologies.

The Radiation Technology & Product Pavilion also opened, featuring participants such as Iljin Rad Co., Tech Valley Co., SF Technology Co., Space&Bean Co., SRS Tech Co., Korea Berthold, the Korea Invention Promotion Association, and the Korea Radiation Promotion Association. The pavilion focused on exhibiting finished products produced through technological convergence—including products and technologies in the radiation field—or on promoting support programs of related institutions.

A poster exhibition presented the current state of research on applications and uses of radiation technologies, with 70 posters on display.

Meanwhile, the radiation industry—which has traditionally focused on medical and semiconductor production—is increasingly expanding into space, aviation, and defense.

In particular, this year’s event drew attention with presentations in the defense sector—such as “Radiation technologies in defense,” “Examples of radiation technologies usable by the military,” and “Use of radiation technologies in developing composite materials for the defense industry”—and in the aerospace sector—such as “The value of radiation technologies in ensuring safe space exploration,” “Development and testing of radiation measurement equipment for lunar support exploration,” and “Use of radiation technologies in the aerospace field.”

‘초격차 시대 앞당기는 방사선 기술’ 주제

정경일 회장, “혁신적 상생전략 마련할 시점” 강조

우주항공·첨단 바이오·반도체 등 폭넓은 주제 다뤄

[에너지플랫폼뉴스 박병인 기자] 한국방사선진흥협회(회장 정경일)가 초격차 기술을 확보할 수 있는 방안에 대한 ‘논의의 장’을 마련했다.

방사선진흥협회는 16일 SETEC 컨벤션센터에서 ‘2023 방사선 과학기술 산업진흥 연차대회’를 개최했다. 이날 행사는 ‘초격차 시대 앞당기는 방사선 기술’을 주제로 진행됐으며 한국수력원자력 황주호 사장, 한국원자력의학원 이진경 원장, 한국원자력연구원 임인철 부원장 등 원자력-방사선산업계 주요 인사들이 참석했다.

본격적인 행사에 앞서 방사선진흥협회 정경일 회장은 환영사를 통해 “방사선 기술산업은 새로운 미래로 진일보하기 위한 중요한 갈림길에 서 있으며 과감하고 혁신적인 전략이 필요하다”며 “이를 위해 산학연 모두가 함께 공통의 비전과 목표를 함께 공유하며 보다 적극적으로 소통하고 협력해야할 것”이라고 강조했다.

이어 정경일 회장은 “현재 글로벌 방사선 이용 시장은 방사성의약품과 진단 및 치료기기 등의 의료적 활용 중심에서 이차전지, 반도체, 항공 우주 등 고부가가치 사업으로 확대되고 있다”며 “이에 새롭게 도약하기 위해 업계는 시장의 잠재력을 충분히 파악하고 함께 성장 발전할 수 있는 혁신적 상생전략을 마련해야 한다”고 덧붙였다.

이어진 기조강연에서는 IAEA 한범수 박사가 나서 세계 방사선 기술·산업 동향 및 우주기술 발굴을 위한 IAEA의 역할에 대한 기조강연이 이뤄졌다.

기조강연 이후 방위산업, 우주항공, 바이오, 반도체 분야에 대한 주제발표도 이뤄졌으며 토론회에서는 ‘초격차 시대 앞당기는 방사선 기술’을 주제로 토론회도 이어졌다.

이뿐만 아니라 부대행사로 방사선진흥협회를 비롯해 원자력연구원, 원자력의학원, 기술보증기금, 서울테크노파크 등이 참여한 방사선 공동 기술이전 상담회도 개최됐다.

방사선 공동 기술이전 상담회는 방사선 기술사업화 지원의 일환으로 기술 수요-공급간 정보교류 및 거래를 위한 소통의 장을 마련하기 위해 진행됐다.

또한 방사선 기술·제품 홍보관에서는 ㈜일진라드, 테크밸리(주), ㈜에스에프테크놀로지, ㈜스페이스앤빈, ㈜에스알에스테크놀, ㈜코리아베르톨드, 한국발명진흥회, 방사선진흥협회가 참여한 방사선 기술·제품 홍보관도 열렸다. 홍보관에서는 방사선 분야 제품, 기술 등 기술 융복합을 통해 생산된 완제품 전시 또는 유관기관 지원사업 홍보 등이 중점적으로 이뤄졌다.

이외에도 방사선 기술포스터 전시회를 통해 방사선 기술에 응용 및 활용이 되는 연구현황을 소개했으며 70점의 포스터가 전시됐다.

한편 그동안 의료, 반도체 생산 등에 주력으로 활용돼 왔던 방사선산업분야는 최근 우주, 항공, 국방 등으로 영역을 점차 확장하고 있다.

특히 이번 행사에서 ▲국방에서의 방사선 기술 ▲군에서 이용할 수 있는 방사선 기술의 활용 예 ▲방위산업용 복합소재 개발에서의 방사선 기술의 활용 등 방위산업분야와 ▲안전을 보장한 우주탐사를 위한 방사선기술의 활용 가치 ▲달 지원 탐사를 위한 방사선계측장비 개발 및 시험 ▲우주항공 분야에서의 방사선 기술 활용 등 우주항공분야 주제발표가 이뤄지면서 참관객의 이목을 집중시켰다.
