Ansys Korea (CEO Park Ju-il), a global leader in engineering simulation, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) announced on the 24th that they held a roundtable to support aerospace startups.

Held on Friday the 21st at Ansys Korea’s office in Jung-gu, Seoul, the roundtable was organized to explore support measures for startups that will lead the aerospace sector, in step with Korea’s full-fledged preparation for the aerospace era following the launch of the national aerospace agency. Beginning with this meeting, both parties affirmed their mutual intent to devise practical support measures for aerospace startups based on active and broad cooperation.

Key officials from both sides were present for in-depth discussions. From the MSS: Minister Oh Young-joo; Im Jeong-uk, Director General for Startup and Venture Innovation; and Jin Su-woong, Head of the Global Startup Team. From Ansys: CEO Ajei Gopal; Moon Seok-hwan, Regional General Manager for ASEAN and ANZ; Park Ju-il, CEO of Ansys Korea; and Padmesh Mandloi, Director of Ansys Customer Excellence. Notably, this marked the first face-to-face meeting between Minister Oh and CEO Gopal. Leading domestic aerospace startups also attended to share on-the-ground support needs, including UEL Unmanned Exploration Lab (CEO Cho Nam-seok), which develops lunar rovers; Space&Bean (CEO Min Kyung-ryeong), which analyzes the space-radiation environment and develops corresponding shielding solutions; Dexterous Technology (CEO Kim Hong-bae), which develops AI technologies to validate the performance of antennas, radars, and communications equipment used in aerospace; Hongsworks (CEO Jeong Ji-hong), which provides optimized designs using specialized metal 3D-printing design and process technologies; and Nania Labs (CEO Kang Nam-uk), a generative AI–based product-design solutions company for manufacturing.

The session began with welcoming remarks by CEO Park Ju-il, followed by a corporate introduction from Director Padmesh Mandloi, an MSS presentation on support programs for aerospace startups, and a report by Ansys Korea Executive Lee Yong-hee sharing the results of the “2024 Global Corporate Collaboration Program — ASK (Ansys/Startup/Korea).” The event concluded with an open discussion on current issues and meetings with startup leaders.

Over the past three years, Ansys Korea has closely collaborated with the MSS through the ASK program, providing engineering simulation packages to startups in future-growth industries—AI, big data, 5G+, blockchain, autonomous and electric/hydrogen mobility, smart manufacturing, electronics/electrical, design, intelligent robotics, bio, drones, and smart cities—to drive productivity innovation and global expansion. This year, support was extended to aerospace startups, further broadening the program’s scope.

“It was a very meaningful time to explore ways to support promising domestic aerospace startups at this pivotal moment as Korea opens its aerospace era, including the launch of the national aerospace agency,” said Park Ju-il, CEO of Ansys Korea. “I extend my gratitude to Minister Oh Young-joo, MSS officials, and the startup leaders for making time in their busy schedules. 글로벌 엔지니어링 시뮬레이션 선도 기업인 앤시스코리아대표 박주일)와 중소벤처기업부(이하 중기부)가 우주항공 스타트업 지원을 위한 간담회를 진행했다고 24일 밝혔다.

지난 21일(금) 서울 중구에 위치한 앤시스코리아 오피스에서 진행된 이번 간담회는 우주항공청 출범을 기점으로 본격적으로 우주항공 시대를 준비하는 국내 환경에 발맞추어, 향후 우주항공 분야를 이끌어 갈 스타트업에 대한 지원 방안을 강구하기 위해 마련됐다. 양 기관은 이번 간담회를 시작으로 적극적이고 광범위한 협력을 바탕으로 우주항공 스타트업에 대한 실질적인 지원 방안을 마련하겠다는 상호 간의 의지를 확인했다.

현장에는 양 기관의 주요 관계자가 배석해 심도 싶은 논의를 이어갔다. 중소벤처기업부에서는 오영주 장관과 임정욱 창업벤처혁신실장, 진수웅 글로벌창업팀장 등이 참석했으며 앤시스에서는 아제이 고팔(Ajei Gopal) 앤시스 최고경영자(CEO), 문석환 앤시스 아세안(ASEAN) 및 호주·뉴질랜드(ANZ) 총괄 대표, 박주일 앤시스코리아 대표, 패드메쉬 맨들로이(Padmesh Mandloi) 앤시스 고객만족(Ansys Customer Excellence) 부문 이사 등이 자리했다. 특히, 중기부 오영주 장관과 아제이 고팔 앤시스 CEO의 첫 대면이 성사되었다는 점이 눈길을 끌었다. 이외에 국내 대표적인 우주항공 스타트업들도 참석해 실제 스타트업이 필요로 하는 지원에 대해 의견을 전달했다. 달 탐사 로버를 개발하는 ‘UEL 무인탐사연구소(대표 조남석)’, 우주 방사선 환경을 분석해 그에 맞는 차폐 솔루션을 개발하는 ‘스페이스앤빈(대표 민경령)’, 항공우주에서 사용되는 안테나, 레이더, 통신장비들의 성능 검증을 위한 인공지능 기술을 개발하는 덱스트러스테크놀러지(대표 김홍배), 금속 3D 프린팅 특화 설계 기술 및 공정 기술을 활용해 최적화된 설계를 제공하는 홍스웍스(대표 정지홍), 제조업을 위한 생성형 AI 기반 제품 설계 솔루션 기업 나니아랩스(대표 강남욱) 등이다.

간담회는 박주일 대표의 환영사를 시작으로 패드메쉬 맨들로이 이사의 앤시스 기업 소개가 이어졌으며, 다음으로 중기부의 우주항공 스타트업 지원 프로그램에 대한 발표가 진행됐다. 이어 이용희 앤시스코리아 이사가 '2024년 글로벌 기업 협업 프로그램 – 애스크(ASK: Ansys/Startup/Korea, 이하 ASK)’의 성과를 공유했다. 이후 현안에 대한 자유 토론 및 스타트업 대표들과의 만남까지 진행하며 간담회의 막을 내렸다.

한편, 앤시스코리아는 지난 3년 간 ASK 프로그램을 기반으로 중기부와 긴밀하게 협력해왔다. 앤시스코리아는 인공지능, 빅데이터, 5G+, 블록체인, 자율주행차와 전기수소차 비롯한 모빌리티, 스마트 제조, 전자·전기, 설계, 지능형 로봇, 바이오, 드론, 스마트시티 등 미래 유망산업 분야의 창업기업에 엔지니어링 시뮬레이션 패키지를 지원해 생산성 혁신과 글로벌 시장 진출을 지원했다. 올해는 우주·항공 분야의 창업기업도 지원하며 그 범위를 지속적으로 확대해오기도 했다.
