A specialized task force has been established to develop “Defense Space Standards” reflecting the unique operational characteristics of the Korean military, officials announced on the 10th.

The task force, composed of dozens of experts from civilian and military research institutions, aims to establish a standardized framework to reduce risks and enhance reliability in the development of space defense systems.

The Defense Agency for Technology and Quality (DTaQ) officially launched the “Defense Space Standards Development Working Group” at the Government Sejong Convention Center on the same day.

The working group brings together approximately 70 experts from around 30 institutions, including representatives from the armed services, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), and the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS).

Under the working group framework, experts from defense and space-related government research institutes, along with testing and analysis organizations, will be organized into three subcommittees to draft implementation-focused standards:

• Electronic Components Assurance

• Radiation Hardness Assurance for Electronic Components

• Space Materials and Process Assurance

The development of the Defense Space Standards will proceed by analyzing advanced space standard systems in the United States, Europe, and Japan, and adapting them to Korea’s defense acquisition and procurement systems, as well as its domestic development environment.

The initiative aims to establish a standardized system that meets international benchmarks while reflecting the specific requirements of Korea’s defense space programs.

Shin Sang-beom, President of DTaQ, stated, “Clear standards are a key factor in reducing trial and error and minimizing development risks, while improving overall project efficiency. The standards to be developed through this working group will enhance the reliability of space defense systems and help strengthen the technological capabilities and global competitiveness of domestic space companies, including small and medium-sized enterprises.”

우리 군 특성을 반영해 ‘국방 우주표준’을 개발할 전문협의체가 10일 구성됐다. 민·군 연구기관 전문가 수십 명으로 꾸려진 협의체는 향후 우주무기체계 개발 과정의 위험성은 줄이고, 신뢰성은 높이기 위한 표준체계를 구축하게 된다.

국방기술품질원(기품원)은 이날 정부세종컨벤션센터에서 ‘국방 우주표준 개발 워킹그룹’을 출범했다.

워킹그룹에는 각 군, 방위사업청, 국방과학연구소, 한국항공우주연구원, 한국표준과학연구원, 한국재료연구원 등 30여 개 기관 전문가 약 70명이 소속됐다.

워킹그룹을 바탕으로 국방·우주 관련 정부연구기관과 시험·분석기관 전문가들은 △전자부품 보증 △전자부품 내방사선 보증 △우주 재료·공정 보증 등 3개 분과로 세분화해 실무 중심의 표준안을 마련할 예정이다.

국방 우주표준 개발은 미국, 유럽, 일본 등 해외 선진 우주표준체계를 분석하고 국방 획득·조달 절차와 국내 개발 환경을 반영해 한국화하는 방식으로 추진된다. 국제 수준에 들어맞으면서 국방 우주사업 특성을 반영한 표준체계 구축을 목표로 하고 있다.

신상범 기품원장은 “명확한 표준은 개발 시행착오와 위험성을 줄이고 사업 효율성을 높이는 핵심 요소”라며 “워킹그룹에서 마련될 표준은 우주무기체계 신뢰성을 높이고, 중소기업을 포함한 국내 우주 산업체의 기술력 축적과 경쟁력 확보에도 실질적인 도움을 줄 것”이라고 말했다.
