(Uijeongbu, Yonhap) — The city of Uijeongbu in Gyeonggi Province said on the 17th that it is expanding its cooperation network, signing a series of agreements with six advanced defense companies.

On the 16th, in the mayor’s office, the city signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) to “build an advanced defense-industry ecosystem” with Weunus Co., a defense software developer, Space&Bean Co., a company specializing in space-radiation shielding technologies, and other firms.

Under the MOUs, Uijeongbu and the companies will cooperate on invigorating the advanced defense sector and strengthening networking among innovative startups.

They also agreed to run programs for cultivating defense-industry talent and for education and training, and to pursue joint research and collaborative projects linking industry, academia, research institutes, government, and the military.

Uijeongbu plans to sign similar agreements on the 18th with Interact Co., a developer of XR-based disaster-safety training programs, and on the 29th with the Anti-Drone Association.

Earlier, on the 8th, the city signed agreements with leading drone-industry companies Assetta Co. and I-One Lab Co..

Leveraging these agreements, the city intends to broaden its roster of defense partners across diverse fields and encourage local firms to transition into the defense industry.

Uijeongbu has drawn up a plan to establish a defense-industry ecosystem under the vision of becoming a “leading advanced-defense hub city spearheading K-Defense.”

By 2028, the city aims to carry out three strategies and 15 key tasks to nurture small but strong defense firms and startups with innovative technologies and global competitiveness.

The city is also competing to host the Gyeonggi Defense Venture Center.

The Defense Venture Center supports startups that supply components used by the armed forces and assists with related technology development and localization, as well as exports.

(의정부=연합뉴스) 김도윤 기자 = 경기 의정부시는 6개 첨단 방위산업체와 잇따라 협약을 맺는 등 관련 협력 네트워크를 확대하고 있다고 17일 밝혔다.

의정부시는 지난 16일 시장실에서 국방 소프트웨어 전문 개발 기업인 ㈜위우너스, 우주 방사선 차폐 기술 개발 기업인 ㈜스페이스앤빈 등과 차례로 '첨단 방위산업 생태계 조성'을 위한 업무 협약을 체결했다.

협약에 따라 의정부시와 이들 기업은 첨단 방위산업 활성화, 혁신 스타트업 네트워킹 등에 협력하게 된다. 또 방위산업 인재 양성과 교육·훈련 프로그램을 운영하고 산·학·연·관·군 협력 프로젝트 발굴과 공동 연구 등을 추진하기로 했다. 의정부시는 오는 18일 확장현실(XR) 기반 재난 안전 교육 프로그램 개발업체인 ㈜인터랙트와, 29일에는 대드론협회와 같은 협약을 체결할 예정이다.

앞서 지난 8일에는 드론 산업 선도 기업인 ㈜아쎄따, 아이원렙㈜ 등과 협약을 맺었다. 이들 협약을 계기로 의정부시는 다양한 분야의 방위산업 협력 기업을 확대하고 시내 기업의 방위산업 전환을 유도할 방침이다.

의정부시는 'K-방산을 선도하는 첨단 방산 거점도시'라는 비전을 담은 방위산업 생태계 구축 계획을 수립했다. 이를 통해 2028년까지 3개 전략, 15개 핵심과제를 수행해 혁신적 기술과 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖춘 방산 강소기업과 스타트업을 육성할 계획이다.
